Sammy Lightfoot (Alt)

Colecovision 1983 Sierra On-Line
Sammy Lightfoot is a 1983 computer game by Sierra On-line. The game was released for a number of 1980s-era home computers and game consoles, such as the Apple II, the Atari 400 and 800, the ColecoVision, the Commodore 64, and the IBM PC. The game was a multi-level platform style game in the vein of the much more popular and successful Donkey Kong. Sammy Lightfoot followed the travails of a circus worker who must jump and climb his way through a number of perilous situations.

Reception

The game itself was not a great commercial success. Its most notable attribute was the main character's ridiculously large pompadour hairdo, which was used to make the character appear unique (given the limited graphical capabilities of the platforms it ran on). The character became something of a cult anti-favorite, inspiring a homemade toy written in Applesoft BASIC called Kill Sammy, which let you murder the circus worker in a number of creative and gruesome ways, including electrocution, drowning, or chainsaw.
